Service Academy Night

On April 23rd, Congressman Darin LaHood’s office will host this years’ “Service Academy Night” for students and their families. This is an informational meeting open to all high school students, parents, school administrators, and guidance counselors. The program is held to educate students on general information about all five US Service Academies, how to begin the application process, how to prepare for the physical aptitude test, and the character requirements necessary for applicants. Each of the academies will have representatives on-hand to provide detailed information about qualifications and the application process. These programs are held annually for students interested in attending any of the following prestigious education institutions:

  • United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), located in Colorado Springs, CO
  • United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), located in Kings Point, NY
  • United States Military Academy (USMA), located in West Point, NY
  • United States Naval Academy (USNA), located in Annapolis, MD
  • United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), located in New London, CT
The program will also have representatives from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and Illinois National Guard. Congressional staff members will be in attendance to discuss the nomination process. To be considered for an appointment to a US Service Academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated from an authorized person including a Member of the US Senate or US House of Representatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for students that have an interest in serving their country and learn how to begin the college application process.
