University of IL Hosting a Number of Events


The colleges at the University of Illinois are hosting a number of events both on and off campus this fall. These are a fantastic opportunity to get a close look at the programs available at U of I.

College of Agricultural, Consumer, & Environmental Sciences
High school juniors and seniors are invited to attend Visit Crop Sciences Days on Monday, September 18 and Monday, October 9. Students and their guests will meet with current professors and students, discover exciting careers in crop sciences, and learn about cutting-edge research helping to feed the world. Lunch will be provided. For more information and to register, students should email Megan Ward.
College of Education
Students are invited to join the College of Education on October 27 for a day full of learning, fun, and homecoming activities! Global Innovations in Education is a free event for those interested in becoming teachers. We will discuss current educational topics, hear from current students and teachers in the college, and interact with other countries during this unique opportunity. We will also celebrate our 150th anniversary by attending the homecoming parade and pep rally! For more information, students should contact Dr. Allison Witt.
College of Fine & Applied Arts
Open Houses
The College of Fine and Applied Arts offers a variety of open houses throughout the fall semester. Feel free to share the following events with your students. They can RSVP for any of them on our website.
Design & Planning Open House—Friday, October 6
Dance Open House—Monday, October 9*
Illinois Theatre Open House—Saturday, October 21*
School of Music Open House—Thursday, October 26
*Note that these dates also act as the departments' Early Action audition dates.
Shadow Days for Art Majors
Shadow Days are held on various dates when classes are in session during the fall semester. These programs are for students interested in majoring in art education, crafts: metal/jewelry design, history of art, new media, painting, photography, or sculpture. Students can request a Shadow Day on our website.
Discover FAA High School Talent Competition
All students grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to enter one of our seven talent competitions: Architectural Drawing, Self-Portrait, Dance Choreography, Design a Playscape, Music Performance, Acting: Shakespeare, or Ideal City. Prizes include scholarships to one of our college degree programs or a 2018 summer program. For more information, encourage students to visit our website.
College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
High school seniors are invited to campus to join us for our annual LAS Discovery Day on Sunday, September 24.
Students will learn about LAS majors and career opportunities, receive more information about our admissions process, and hear from professors in a variety of academic disciplines discussing real-world issues such as sustainability, energy, and the environment; inequality and cultural understanding; and global health and wellness. The day will also include lunch at a campus dining hall and the chance to meet current students.

College of Media
Interested in showing students how they can translate their interests into rewarding careers in advertising, journalism, public relations, and media and cinema studies? The College of Media will inspire and innovatively educate students with 45-minute seminars at Chicago-area high schools through journalism and creative writing classes.
